The Secret

Nearly every week I have secret discussions with families across the Chicagoland area. I call them secret because that is how they are often treated initially. What are we talking about exactly?

Hospice.

"What will my husband think if he hears I'm putting him on hospice? I don't want him to die..."

"What if my relatives find out?! They will think I'm trying to kill her... I don't want her to die but I see that she's suffering."

We just ̶w̶a̶n̶t̶ ̶ need some help.

I'm nervous about this.

Often times, families are looking for some validation that their family member is indeed ready for hospice care. They are looking for reassurance that hospice services will not hasten death.

Placing your loved one on hospice care is a big decision. Our staff expect that most families will have many questions, after all, if this was our family, we would too. Hospice staff are here to support you and your loved one through the many ups and downs that come along with this stage in life. You don't have to do this alone.
